Online Alarm Clock
A free online alarm clock: pick a time and a sound, keep the tab open. Your laptop is now a Netflix machine alarm clock.
It's – now
How to set an alarm online
1. Pick a time
Type when it should ring and press Set alarm. A time that already passed today rings tomorrow. In a hurry? Tap 10 min, 30 min or 1 hour.
2. Pick a sound
Choose from 27 real recordings and press Test sound to hear it at your volume. Loud sirens for heavy sleepers, soft chimes if a whisper wakes you.
3. Keep the tab open
The countdown runs in the tab title. Leave the computer plugged in and awake. When it rings, stop it or snooze it.
Will the online alarm ring? A quick check
Browser alarms are only as reliable as the device they run on. Here's what happens in each case.
| Situation | Rings? | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Tab open, screen on | Yes | Nothing stops it. |
| Another tab or app in front | Yes | The sound is scheduled on the audio clock, which keeps running in the background. |
| Screen dims or locks, computer awake | Usually | Desktop browsers keep playing. "Keep the screen on" avoids the question. |
| Laptop lid closed or asleep | No | The browser is paused. It rings late, as soon as the computer wakes. |
| Volume muted or very low | Silently | It plays, but you won't hear it. Test the sound before bed. |
| Phone with the screen locked | No | Phones pause web pages. Use a phone alarm app instead. |
| Tab or browser closed | No | The alarm lives in the page. The page asks before you leave. |
Which sound and settings for which alarm?
A browser alarm isn't only for mornings. Here's what we'd pick for each job, and how to set it up. For the full ranked list with downloads, see the alarm sounds library.
| Alarm for | Try this sound | Settings |
|---|---|---|
| Heavy sleeper, morning | or | Fade off, volume up, speaker across the room. Snooze 5 min at most. |
| Normal morning | or | A clear tune is enough. Fade on if you hate being jolted awake. |
| Power nap | or | Tap "30 min" and turn fade on: 20 minutes of nap plus time to drift off. |
| Study or work session | or | Ring in 30 min or 1 hour. A bell says "time's up" without panic. |
| Cooking or a reminder | or | Short and easy to notice from the next room. Fade off. |
| Kids | or | Funny, not scary. Keep the volume moderate. |
| Shared room or office | or | Soft enough not to bother others. Use headphones if you can. |

Online alarm clock for heavy sleepers
Go loud and sudden
Pick a sound rated 5/5 that hits full volume at once, like the shrill alarm clock beep or the air horn. Leave "Start quiet" off.
Use real speakers
Laptop speakers are small. A Bluetooth or desk speaker across the room is louder, and you have to get up to reach the stop button.
Have a backup
For a flight, an exam or an early shift, set a phone alarm too. A browser can't ring if the computer falls asleep.
Good for naps, study timers and mornings at your desk. For anything you can't miss, use two alarms.
Questions people ask
Does an online alarm clock work if my computer goes to sleep?
No. When a laptop sleeps or the lid is closed, the browser stops too, so no website can ring. Keep the computer plugged in and awake, leave the tab open, and turn on "Keep the screen on" in Settings. If it slept anyway, the alarm rings as soon as the computer wakes up.
Will it ring if I switch to another tab?
Yes. The sound is scheduled on your browser's audio clock, which keeps running in background tabs. Closing the tab or quitting the browser cancels the alarm, so the page asks before you leave.
How do I set an alarm for 30 minutes?
Tap "30 min" next to "Ring in" under the time box. The alarm starts right away and the countdown shows how long is left. For any other length, type the time it should ring and press Set alarm.
What is the loudest sound for heavy sleepers?
The air raid siren, the shrill alarm clock beep and the air horn rank highest on our list. The beep and the air horn are at full volume within half a second; the siren winds up for about 8 seconds and then ends up the loudest of all. Turn your volume up, and use speakers instead of headphones.
Can I use an online alarm clock on my phone?
Only while the phone stays unlocked with this page open. Phones pause web pages when the screen locks, so for mornings your phone's own clock app is safer.
Is this online alarm clock free?
Yes. No sign-up, no app, no limits. Every sound is a free CC0 recording you can also download from our alarm sounds library.
